Son of Chainsaw
Son of Chainsaw

The hip hop- and hous scene keeps redigesting samples of the best and worse from the sixties and seventies. From

now on personal style has become a privileged commodity and originality subordinate to global commerce.

In The Hague, non musicians Clarc Kennie (Richard Neumöller), Slim Pickled and Ozzy Darantino commit their samples, elaborate network of musicians, love for music and dedication, to the imaginary revived automaton, formerly known as

“Archie, man of steel”, or, as they like to call him;  S.O.C, a.k.a. “Son Of Chainsaw”.

The music, gradually evolving from this collaboration initially gets derived from an Atari based midi setup with two

Yamaha samplers, drumcomputer and tonemodules.

Shaped around samples of authentic recordings Ozzy took from his many trips to Asia, excerpts from cinema,TV, radio and “scratchsessions” on Heino, Spike Jones and Carl Stalling records, their musical style is probably best described as

“hydraulic jazzpunk” or “scrapheap”.

To the base, which are digital sketches, weekly recorded in layers, different musicians add ‘live’ elements, such as: sax, harmonica, trumpet, guitar and vocals to give this electronic Frankenstein a human feel.
